BLOOD FLOW RESTRICTION THERAPY (BFRT) assists with the development of muscle strength.
"Physical therapists have an existing firm foundation in anatomy, physiology, therapeutic exercise, and the cardiorespiratory system, as well as clinical reasoning, which are the components of the safe application of blood flow restriction training." ~American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
HOW DOES Blood Flow Restriction Therapy WORK?
“Blood flow restriction therapy is an accelerated rehabilitation protocol. The therapy essentially creates an environment in the muscle where it makes the muscle work as hard as if it is lifting heavy weights when it is lifting smaller weights. Cutting off the blood flow tricks the muscle into working harder than it actually would be doing." ~Mark C. Drakos, MD, orthopedic surgeon at HSS (Hospital for Special Surgery)
